Autumn’s Sentinels

I feel as if fall was an illusive moment for me this year. It seems I was chasing her from the mountains to home and never seemed to quite find what I was looking for. Possibly my problem was, since I have become so fascinated with nature photography these days, that I was looking so hard for one particular thing that I literally missed everything. It’s a little like that old adage “you can’t see the forest for the trees”. I was looking for that one incredible photo when the world around me was ablaze with opportunities.

While riding home from my last visit with my sister, we came around a bend and there it was… two rows of red headed sentinels standing guard over a small dusty lane, an autumnal treat for the eyes. I nearly scared David to death when I shouted STOP! turn around, turn around. It was one of those happy heart racing moments that only photographers can understand. In all my excitement I didn’t get all the photos that I should have (another lesson learned), but I did finally have my one exciting autumn moment. Next year let’s hope I’ve learned from my mistakes. Thank you Marta, John and Avery County for making this a great year in many ways.

It’s a gorgeous photograph. I often make my husband’s heart leap too, except I don’t usually give him any warning by telling him to stop – I usually just throw the door open. LOL
